It’s been a very long week for us at Whitetruffle. Last Friday, LinkedIn notified us that they were shutting off our access to their API and gave us until today to get everything in order before turning things off.

We’ve worked like crazy to make sure affected users can continue to use the Whitetruffle they know. We realized that asking urgent requests to our users at a time where the East Coast is dealing with a natural disaster may seem inappropriate (our team was also impacted), but unfortunately, we didn’t see any other option (btw, we’re taking special actions for those impacted by Sandy, such as putting match expirations on hold etc…). We also don’t like sending mass emails, so hopefully, all of this is behind us now.

The shining light through all of this is that response from our users has been overwhelming supportive. It made us realize how many people out there love Whitetruffle, and for this we are very grateful.

Many of you highlighted your vision on data ownership. I don’t want to start a debate, but I will just say that everyone in the Whitetruffle team believes that education and employment history should be owned by the users, and not by any service. We will release several features in the weeks to come that will show our commitment to that philosophy.

And to our delight, aside from the many kind words of support, we also had several users offering to write code for free to help us launch a few features faster and make Whitetruffle better. I will get back to you soon, and we would love to have you involved!

I wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. We didn’t know what to expect, but your actions and warm words of encouragement keep us going and I can’t thank you enough for your patience and trust in us. You are our engine. We have plenty of good stuff on our roadmap that I know you will love. It’s just the beginning.

And lastly, for our East Coast users, and anyone impacted by Sandy, please know that our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you and your loved ones. Stay safe.
